Between by intense exam revision sessions, I’ve sunk many hours into this fantastic free music-making program - the audiotool (http://www.audiotool.com/). It looks fantastic, with brilliant graphics, and can produce some amazing sounds.
There are a few drum machines, a bass synth, a more complicated synth (that seems to be modeled off the Minimoog Voyager (http://www.moogmusic.com/voyager/?section=product&product_id=40)) and an enorumous sample library from loopmasters.com - you drop all of these onto the ‘workspace’ and then plug them into mixers and effects pedals to modify the sounds. After that you can automate every feature/control of the devices in a timeline, and create an entire song, which you then ‘publish’ into the community. People can then fave and comment on your song, as well as open it and completely remix it if they want to (depending on the privacy license you choose)
The attached MP3 is one of the tracks I’ve been working on - it’s really just a collection of ideas at the moment, I’m still half-learning how to use it, and it takes a while to take an awesome sound/effect and turn it into something you actually want to publish.
I’m working on another sample-based track too, as well as a cover of Daft Punk’s ‘Steam Machine’ - although trying to emulate the main synth is proving to be quite a challenge!
